It is becoming apparent that California has only a year left of water and our groundwater has been illegally poisoned from "Natural" gas fracking as revealed in recent testing near eight of a hundred disposal wells. "Central Valley Water Board testing found high levels of arsenic, thallium and nitrates — contaminants sometimes found in oil industry wastewater — in water-supply wells near these waste-disposal operations." the Center for Biological diversity press release states. They obtained state documents that reveal nearly three billion gallons of toxic fracking wastewater has been illegally dumped into water used for drinking and farm irrigation. I wonder how many farms use this water and are certified organic? The water is supposed to be protected by federal and state law. I am not aware of any prosecutions in response to this and doubt there will be.
"Underground migration of chemicals like benzene can take years," the release also states. This has been revealed by the three decades later permeation of dioxins now illegal just contaminating groundwater. I cannot find an article on that but it was once covered on my old news show Unstacking the Deck.
The Center calls for halting all fracking in the state. There are nearly 2,600 of this wells in California. If the system worked in the first place, I do not believe fracking would ever been approved. It is insanity this stuff is called "natural gas". Might make you think twice about other 100% natural products promoted as sustainable in an inherent unsustainable system.
Fracking uses a boatload of toxic chemicals that are said to be "trade secrets" by the companies engaged in these operations. Here is a couple articles that can explain how messed up it is:
